An Enemy Like me is a novel by Teri M. Brown, which was published in 2023. The book follows a boy named Jacob Miller who was a first-generation American. In his adulthood, he has to choose something which will not only affect him but also the lives of those around him will also be affected.
The book cover gave me really brave vibes. It showcased a soldier moving forward just like clouds and water. He is surrounded by so many emotions and each one is equally valuable to him. Once I opened this book, little did I know I would be introduced to a whole new different journey of love, sacrifice, and patriotism.
Book Review: An Enemy Like Me by Teri M. Brown
We all have faced such situations where we can’t decide what to choose because choosing one is not worth sacrificing the other. An Enemy Like Me is one such story that talks about love for family, and love for country and the problem lies in choosing one and sacrificing the other.

After growing up he fell in love with a girl named Bonnie, later they get married and started their family. Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Jacob Miller is now a grown-up, raising up facing his father’s absence and The Great Depression. His mother not only fulfilled his every need but also loved him unconditionally. Jacob fell in love with Bonnie, a rich and beautiful girl who lost her wealth to The Great Depression.
Bonnie, despite having financial status differences, felt everything was pretty similar between them, which eventually pulled them closer to each other. They got married and had a son named William. When World War II began, initially Jacob listened to Bonnie’s fear and excused himself from serving in the war.
After some time, he got inundated with too many thoughts which finally led him to the war he didn’t initiate. Not only him but the people waiting for him behind were also changed. When Jacob returned, nothing was the same, not even himself. He was a whole new person. War doesn’t end with winning; it ends with changing souls forever.

It’s not only the plots of war that make it interesting but the novel also shows so many emotions that, one feels going through such difficult times. Overall, it is a fairly simple read. I felt so connected and emotional after reading this.

Reasons to add this book to your TBR
Whenever we hear about wars, we always think of nations fighting with each other. After reading this book I have some different views that war is actually not between nations but between individuals fighting to live one more day and hoping to meet their family again.
This book is really a must-read for one who is not aware of the drastic change happening in one’s life after the war and what the cost they had to pay after leaving their families for war.
Reading An Enemy Like Me will teach you so many things which we might miss in our daily life. A true representation of love, sacrifice, and the after-effects of war. If you are a fiction lover and enjoy love and devotion, this one’s for you.
