Book Review : The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad by Twinkle Khanna
The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad by Twinkle Khanna is her second book and precisely her first attempt at fiction. Her self-titled first book, Mrs Funnybones, was a funny account of the author’s daily observations in a women’s life.
Twinkle Khanna’s first fiction book, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, is a collection of four different stories that are connected with an underlying theme of feminism. The first story of The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad is about a 17-year-old young girl who is brave enough to ensure freedom of every girl child in her village. It focuses on the everyday life women issues that one can relate.
Twinkle Khanna has added the second story in The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad which is a tale of a woman who finds herself attracted to a married man at the age of 68. It cleverly breaks a stereotype as Twinkle stresses on the fact that love is beyond age.
It is followed by a story of a Malayali woman who plans her five weddings in the quest to find the meaning of life. The last and the longest story of The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad by Twinkle Khanna takes inspiration from the life of Arunachalam Muruganathan, the social entrepreneur who invented the cheapest sanitary pad making machine.
All four stories have different impressions but the thing that’s common is the deft writing style and unmatched wit of Twinkle Khanna. It collectively makes The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad a book which makes you laugh and think simultaneously.
